Experts: Anti - Virus Measures For Nightlife Areas

Experts: Anti-virus measures for nightlife areas

A group of Japanese experts has come up with measures to prevent the coronavirus from spreading from nightlife districts to other areas.

The experts made proposals at Monday's meeting of a government panel on the coronavirus response.

They said their study shows the virus spread from bars and nightclubs in entertainment districts in Tokyo and other areas to other parts of the country after the state of emergency was lifted in late May.

The experts suggested that the government set up an organization which will implement middle- and long-term measures together with local authorities.

The measures include swift testing of employees and customers of bars and nightclubs. The experts also noted the need to support public health centers that investigate infection routes and arrange hospital admission for patients.

They say it is important to build trust with people in nightlife districts and advise them on how to prevent infections.

Omi Shigeru, who heads the panel of experts, said it is highly likely the virus will spread again from similar environments even if infections begin to decline.

He stressed the need for a system to support public health center staff and build trust with people in nightlife districts.
