Fast-food chains in Japan hiking prices

Major fast food chains in Japan are raising their prices to deal with the yen's sharp depreciation and the soaring cost of ingredients.

McDonald's Japan will increase its prices across the board from September 30. The price of a plain hamburger will increase by 15 percent to 150 yen, the equivalent of about a dollar. It will be the second time this year that the company has raised prices.

Beef-bowl chain Yoshinoya will change its pricing the following day.

A regular-sized beef bowl will cost 448 yen, or about 3 dollars 10 cents, from October 1. That is a 5 percent jump.

Mister Donut is planning to raise prices for most of its menu for a second time this year.

From late November, customers will have to pay the equivalent of up to 13 cents more for 39 types of donuts and pies.
