Driver's licenses issued in Japan from Sunday show the new era name of Reiwa for the first time.
Licenses issued or renewed from May 5 have expiration dates that include the name Reiwa. The new era started when Emperor Naruhito ascended the throne on May 1.
A woman in her 20s said it feels good to see Reiwa on her license. She said she believes she will gradually get used to the new name, and she will continue to drive safely.
A man in his 20s said this is the first time he has seen Reiwa on an official document, and it made him realize that Japan has entered a new era. He said he will be careful not to cause any accidents in Reiwa.
