Governors To Issue Emergency Proposals

Governors to issue emergency proposals

Japan's prefectural leaders say they will ask the central government to provide compensation for losses incurred as a result of the restraints on businesses due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The National Governors' Association held an emergency online task force meeting on Wednesday.

The governors of the seven prefectures affected by Prime Minister Abe Shinzo's declaration of a state of emergency explained their current situations and the measures that are being implemented.

The participants included Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko and Osaka Governor Yoshimura Hirofumi.

The governors decided to put together a set of emergency proposals. One proposal will call on the central government to provide compensation for losses incurred in the wake of the officially requested restraints on public events and other business activities.

The leaders will also ask the central government to make improvements to the medical service system.

The governors say they will ask residents in prefectures covered by the emergency declaration to stay indoors. They say they will also ask people in other prefectures not to travel to those areas.
