A state banquet in honor of US President Donald Trump and the First Lady is now underway.
Trump is Japan's first state guest since the start of the Reiwa era, which began on May 1 when Emperor Naruhito ascended the throne.
Prior to the banquet, Prime Minister Abe and Trump met for hours -- discussing a wide range of issues including North Korea, Iran and trade.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to work together to solve the issue of abductions of Japanese nationals by the North decades ago.
The two leaders are expected to follow up on these issues next month on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Osaka.
Trump's four-day visit to Japan wraps up on Tuesday.
He is scheduled to visit a US naval base near Tokyo for Memorial Day. It's an annual US holiday that honors those who died in war. He will also tour US Navy and Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force vessels.
