Infection spreads across Japan

Taking a closer look at the number of new infections. Tokyo has logged a record number of cases for the fourth day in a row. Suspected in-hospital infections are occurring in other prefectures.

In the capital, a record 197 coronavirus cases of infection were confirmed on Saturday alone, bringing the total to over 1,900.

Officials at Kobe City Medical Center General Hospital said they confirmed 13 new cases of the virus on Saturday. They said the figure includes patients and nurses.

The facility is designated as an institution for infectious diseases. It has been treating more than 50 coronavirus patients.

The hospital officials have decided not to take new coronavirus patients unless they are suffering severe symptoms.

Kobe City Medical Center General Hospital Kihara Yasuki said, "We will review our operations. We want to fulfill our role by preserving the functions of the hospital".

In central Japan, officials at Toyama City Hospital said one patient in her 70s and one nurse in her 30s have been infected with the virus.
