Japan, Finland Agree To Cooperate In Developing Arctic



Japan, Finland agree to cooperate in developing ArcticJapan and Finland agreed Friday to cooperate in developing the resource-rich Arctic without damaging the environment, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said.



Japan wants to "contribute to the development of the Arctic through the Arctic Council and bilateral cooperation" with Finland, Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida was quoted as saying in a meeting with Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja in Tokyo.

Japan wants to promote Arctic development "while protecting the environment," Kishida was quoted as saying.
