Japanese and South Korean government officials have wrapped up several hours of discussions on Japan's stricter export restrictions.
The meeting in Tokyo on Friday lasted more than five hours.
Japan tightened curbs on shipments of three materials to South Korea last week.
The items are used in the production of semiconductors and other high-tech devices. Japanese officials say they could also be used for military purposes. They say they have found several cases of improper handling of the materials in South Korea which has raised security concerns.
It's believed that Japanese officials conveyed the concerns at the meeting. .
The officials explained that the latest measure is in line with World Trade Organization rules.
