Japan to deny entry to people from northern Italy

Japan is set to deny entry to visitors from northern parts of Italy. The Italian areas have been virtually locked down, amid efforts to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

The Japanese government is preparing to add northern areas of Italy to the coronavirus travel ban list. People visiting from regions on the list have been barred from entering Japan.

The government is expected to make a formal decision on Tuesday.

The development comes after Italy imposed restrictions on the movement of people in its northern regions. The number of cases in the country has topped 7,000.

Tokyo added some parts of South Korea and Iran to the entry ban list last week.
