Japanese girl wins park skateboarding championship

A 13-year-old Japanese girl has won the women's world park skateboarding championship.

Misugu Okamoto scored a total of 61.17 in Saturday's final in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Another Japanese skateboarder, 17-year-old Sakura Yosozumi, took the silver.

The eight finalists were scored on the height of their jumps and the difficulty of their air tricks as they went down a bowl-shaped course.

Okamoto secured victory despite an initial setback. She pulled off a 540-degree rotation while grabbing the board.

Skateboarding will make its Olympic debut at next year's Tokyo Games.
