Japanese skaters mourn Denis Ten

Japanese athletes are mourning the death of Kazakhstani figure skater Denis Ten.

Shizuka Arakawa, who won gold at the Turin Winter Olympics, tweeted that the news of Ten's death broke her heart. She said she recalls his sweet smiles and that she prays his soul may rest in peace.

Many other skaters, including Akiko Suzuki and Takahito Mura, posted similar tweets.

Ten had regularly exchanged online messages with Japanese skaters.

When rival Daisuke Takahashi announced his return to competition on July 1st, Ten posted a congratulatory message with a photo of himself and Takahashi.

Ten also posted a photo on Twitter showing himself and Mao Asada, who retired from competition in April last year, wishing her a wonderful new journey.
