Koike Once Again Calls For Anti - Infection Efforts

Koike once again calls for anti-infection efforts

Tokyo Governor Koike Yuriko has once again urged residents and businesses to take measures to prevent spreading of the coronavirus after daily infection cases in the Japanese capital hit a record high.

Koike made the appeal on Friday as she announced that 293 new cases were confirmed.

She said 70 percent of the newly confirmed virus carriers are in their 20s and 30s, but that infections among people in their 40s and 50s are on the rise.

She also said infection routes are becoming diverse, citing examples of younger people getting infected at parties and people transmitting the virus to older family members.

The governor urged residents and businesses to help curb the outbreak and stay on the highest alert.

Koike asked that people avoid establishments that fail to fully implement anti-infection guidelines issued by the metropolitan government or industry groups.

She asked people to ensure that they disinfect their hands, keep distance from others and avoid speaking loudly in shops, restaurants and other establishments.
