Leaders discuss access to basic health services

Leaders and representatives from over 50 countries are in Japan for the Tokyo International Conference on African Development, also known as TICAD.

Thursday's discussion focused on one of the biggest hurdles hampering economic and social development... access to healthcare.

One idea that generated attention was providing universal health coverage, which would provide care to people regardless of financial circumstances.

On the first day of the conference, Japan announced plans to help bring universal health coverage to three million more Africans over the next three years.
