Leiji Matsumoto is in intensive care in Italy

A hospital in Turin, Italy says Japanese manga creator Leiji Matsumoto is in intensive care after having been put into a medically induced coma.

A hospital official told NHK on Saturday that a preliminary diagnosis indicated that Matsumoto is in serious condition, but that it will be at least another 24 hours before further details are known.

Italian media reported that the 81-year-old was hospitalized on Friday after an apparent stroke. He is said to have felt sick while attending a screening party for "Galaxy Express 999," an anime movie he created.
