M5.2 earthquake hits Ishikawa

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 jolted Ishikawa Prefecture in central Japan at around 6:42 p.m. on Thursday.

Officials say there is no threat of tsunami.

The Meteorological Agency says the epicenter was in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture, and the focus was 10 kilometers deep.

The agency says the quake registered an intensity of 5 minus on Japan's seismic scale of zero to seven in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture. An intensity of 4 was recorded in the neighboring town of Noto.
