Many fishmongers and wholesalers have been working since early Sunday morning. They are moving from the Tsukiji food market to a new site. The wholesale market in downtown Tokyo closed on Saturday after 83 years in business.
The new market, located in the Toyosu Waterfront area, will open on Thursday.
A large quantity of goods and equipment must be transferred to the new facility. The amount is roughly enough to fill up 5,300 trucks.
Altogether, 2,600 small vehicles and forklifts that will be used at the market will be brought to the new location by Wednesday.
Authorities temporarily opened a section of the new road that connects the old and the new sites.
