OECD head conveys support for Abe's economic policiesThe secretary general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Angel Gurria, expressed support Wednesday for Japan's antideflation policies in a meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

Abe, who aims to revitalize the deflation-battered Japanese economy through three-pronged policies of drastic monetary easing, massive public spending and a growth strategy, said he is "extremely encouraged" by the OECD's backing, the Foreign Ministry said.

At the outset of the meeting, Abe conveyed Tokyo's intention to assume the chairmanship of the Paris-based organization's ministerial council next year, saying the year marks the 50th anniversary of Japan's entry into the club.
