Official Campaigning Begins For 41 Prefectural Assemblies



Official campaigning begins for 41 prefectural assembliesOfficial campaigning began Friday for nationwide elections to pick assembly members in 41 prefectures and in 17 major cities across Japan.




Japan holds unified local elections every four years to cut election costs and improve voting rates. This year, voters go to the polls on April 12, the same voting day for gubernatorial elections in 10 prefectures.

Both the ruling and opposition parties are trying to shore up their support base to brace for upcoming races, including one for the House of Councillors next year.
