‘one Piece’ Train Begins Runs To Help Kumamoto Rebuilding

‘One Piece’ train begins runs to help Kumamoto rebuildingUsually sailing the high seas, the Straw Hat Pirates of the popular manga "One Piece" have docked their ship to adorn the exterior of a local train, bringing smiles in this quake-ravaged region.
Kumagawa Railroad launched the sightseeing train operated under the “One Piece” theme between Hitoyoshi-Onsen Station in Hitoyoshi and Yunomae Station in Yunomae, both in Kumamoto Prefecture, on Oct. 29.

“The train is far greater than I expected. I am happy that many people are helping the region’s reconstruction efforts,” said Miyuki Nakatake, 31, a resident of Nishimera, Miyazaki Prefecture, at Yunomae Station. She was holding a stuffed doll of Chopper, one of the Straw Hat Pirates. Her parents’ home in Kumamoto was damaged in the devastating series of earthquakes in April.

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the manga, who is from Kumamoto, and others proposed the project to support the disaster-hit region.

The train also features Kumamoto Castle, the Yunomae Manga Museum and other local landmarks on the train's exterior.

The train is scheduled to operate through Feb. 26, 2017.
