Osaka Asks Defense Minister To Send Sdf Nurses

Osaka asks defense minister to send SDF nurses

Osaka Governor Yoshimura Hirofumi says he has asked Defense Minister Kishi Nobuo to send nurses from the Self-Defense Forces to treat serious coronavirus cases at a newly established medical facility.

Yoshimura visited the new center for treating COVID-19 patients in serious condition on Monday.

The Osaka Covid-19 Critical Care Center has been set up within the compound of the Osaka General Medical Center in the city of Osaka. It has 30 beds, all equipped with ventilators. It is scheduled to open on Tuesday next week.

Yoshimura told reporters that the prefectural government has secured 80 nurses for the new facility, but this is far from enough.

The governor added that only a limited number of SDF nurses have the skills to treat serious cases, but he hopes that several of them will be sent to the center.

Yoshimura had also requested the National Governors' Association and the Union of Kansai Governments in western Japan to send nurses.
