The new year holiday season does not begin for another four months. But major department stores in Japan are trying to get a head start.
They have already announced their offerings of seasonal dishes called "Osechi." Families eat the traditional items together while ringing in the new year.
Matsuya Ginza is expanding its selections that are created by chefs at high-end restaurants. Sets cost 330 dollars each on average.
The department store is expecting strong demand this season...as a hike in the consumption tax next month will not affect food eaten at home.
Department stores plan to start taking orders from later this month at their branches and online.
