Over 1,300 coronavirus cases reported in Japan

Six more infections of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Japan as of Thursday morning, bringing the total number to 1,313.

The figure was provided by the health ministry and local governments. It includes 14 cases confirmed among people who returned from China's Hubei Province on chartered flights.

Thirty three were health ministry staff, quarantine officers and those who were found to have the virus during arrival checks at airports.

By prefecture, Tokyo has 212 cases, followed by Hokkaido with 167, Aichi with 154, Osaka with 149, Hyogo with 119, and Kanagawa with 87.

When 712 cases from the Diamond Princess cruise ship are included, the total number of infections now stands at 2,025.

The number of fatalities from the virus is 55, including 10 from the cruise ship.

The health ministry says 66 people, including nine from the Diamond Princess, were in serious condition as of Wednesday.

It says 907 people, including 310 who were infected in Japan and 597 from the cruise ship, have recovered and left hospital.
