Over 1.8 mil. people ordered to escape typhoon

More than 1.8 million people in seven prefectures in southwestern Japan have been ordered to evacuate immediately as Typhoon Haishen threatens to hit the region.

As of 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, evacuation orders were issued to the following municipalities -- Omuta City in Fukuoka Prefecture, Takeo City and Kohoku Town in Saga Prefecture, Goto City, Iki City, and Sasebo City in Nagasaki Prefecture, Kumamoto City, Kuma Village, and Tsunagi Town in Kumamoto Prefecture, Hita City in Oita Prefecture, Hyuga City, Misato Town, Kadogawa Town, and Kijo Town in Miyazaki Prefecture, Toshima Village, Tarumizu City, Kanoya City, Kagoshima City, Mishima Village, Nishinoomote City, Makurazaki City, Akune City, Satsumasendai City, Soo City, Minamiosumi Town, Kinko Town, and Nagashima Town in Kagoshima Prefecture.

Advisories to evacuate promptly were issued to more than 5.7 million people in 11 prefectures.
