Pregnant Women Receive Defective Masks

Pregnant women receive defective masks

Some of the cloth masks provided by the Japanese government to pregnant women have been found defective.

The government began sending masks, a total of 500,000, to pregnant women in the country on April 14 before it began sending two each to all households on Friday.

The health ministry revealed that 80 municipalities had reported by Friday night that some masks were stained and others were contaminated with human hair or dust.

And it said the number of such problematic masks topped 1,900.

The ministry says the masks come from a number of firms, and that defective ones will be replaced with new masks. It is urging the companies to resolve the production problems.

The ministry says the same companies will be providing the ones which are to be sent to all households and that they are required to conduct visual inspections.
