Hundreds of thousands of LED lights have lit up a street in Sendai as part of an annual winter event in the northeastern Japanese city.
A lighting ceremony for the Sendai Pageant of Starlight took place on Friday evening. Organizers switched on about 600,000 lights wrapped around 160 zelkova trees, at 5:30 p.m., following a countdown.
Onlookers stopped to view the winter spectacle and take photos.
A man in his 30s said he came to the event for the first time and was surprised that it was so beautiful. He said his children look happy and he is glad that he came to see the illuminations.
The event runs through December 31.
