Japan's new Emperor has had his first audience with representatives of the people at the Imperial Palace.
The Sokui-go-Choken-no-gi started at 11:12 a.m. on Wednesday in the Matsu-no-Ma State Room.
Emperor Naruhito, along with Empress Masako, met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and other representatives.
The Emperor delivered his first speech in his new role.
The Emperor said, "I swear that I will act according to the Constitution and fulfill my responsibility as the symbol of the State and of the unity of the people of Japan, while always turning my thoughts to the people and standing with them.
