Suga To Face No - Confidence Motion From Opposition

Suga to face no-confidence motion from opposition

Japanese opposition parties are set to introduce a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Suga Yoshihide's Cabinet on Tuesday.

The leaders of the four opposition parties, including Constitutional Democratic Party, agreed to introduce the motion.

This comes after the opposition's request for a three-month extension to the current Diet session was rejected by Suga's government and governing parties.

Governing party officials said that almost all of the bills submitted by the government have either been approved or are likely to be by the end of the session.

The opposition camp insisted that the extension is necessary because of the need to prepare for unexpected situations regarding the coronavirus pandemic.

Ruling party lawmakers plan to vote down the motion after it is submitted to the Lower House. They say there is no reason for the Cabinet to face a no-confidence motion.
