Suspect in Japan woman's case grilled in Chile

Investigators from France and Chile have questioned a Chilean man suspected of killing a Japanese woman.

Narumi Kurosaki, a Japanese university student, disappeared in December 2016 while studying in the eastern French city of Besancon.

French authorities put 28-year-old Nicolas Zepeda on an international wanted list on suspicion of killing Kurosaki, who had been his girlfriend.

French prosecutors visited the Chilean capital of Santiago to interview Zepeda.

After the interview at a prosecutors' office on Wednesday, the suspect did not respond to questions from reporters.

A Chilean prosecutor told reporters that the Chilean side could not reveal details of the investigation, but would continue to cooperate with the French prosecutors, and that the French side is responsible for conducting the investigation.

French authorities discontinued the search for Kurosaki in October last year. Observers say they may demand that Chile hand over Zepeda.
