Eighteen-year-old Japanese swimming star Rikako Ikee, who is battling leukemia, says she will not give up her efforts to take part in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Ikee updated her social media posts on Wednesday to express her determination to compete in the Tokyo Games.
The previous day it was just 500 days before the opening of the 2020 Games.
On her Twitter and Instagram accounts, she says the opening of the Tokyo Games is 499 days away and has missed one day but she will never give up.
Ikee also posted a photo of herself that was taken with other Japanese swimmers during the Rio de Janeiro Olympics three years ago.
Ikee had been training abroad until she complained of poor health and returned to Japan in early February.
She was diagnosed with leukemia and is now in hospital.
