Teen Arrested Over Wisconsin Protesters' Deaths

Teen arrested over Wisconsin protesters' deaths

A teenager has been arrested after two people were shot dead during protests in the US state of Wisconsin over the police shooting of a black man.

Protests have been continuing after Jacob Blake was critically injured when he was shot in the back seven times at close range on Sunday in the city of Kenosha.

Many of the protests are reportedly peaceful, but some turned violent at night, with participants throwing fireworks and stones at police, who responded with tear gas.

Police say that a 17-year-old boy opened fire during the protests on Tuesday night, leaving two people dead and one person wounded. They arrested him on suspicion of first-degree intentional homicide.

Local media say the boy clashed with protesters and opened fire.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers declared a state of emergency and sent National Guard troops to Kenosha to help maintain public safety.

President Donald Trump said on Twitter on Wednesday that he will be sending federal law enforcement officials to Kenosha to "restore LAW and ORDER."

He wrote, "We will NOT stand for looting, arson, violence, and lawlessness on American streets." He also said Governor Evers had agreed to accept federal assistance.
