Tokyo police have arrested a company employee on suspicion of stealing hard disk drives.
Yuichi Takahashi, a 50-year-old employee of Tokyo-based Broadlink, is suspected of having stolen 12 drives from the company on Tuesday.
The man told police that he also stole other drives that were found to contain personal information of residents in Kanagawa Prefecture.
Prefectural officials say the employee auctioned 18 drives online without disposing of them as the company was ordered.
The officials say they contained files that included tax information and the names of individuals and firms.
They say nine of the drives have not been retrieved.
The suspect told police that he committed theft on multiple occasions to sell them at auction.
