The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 188 new coronavirus cases in the Japanese capital on Tuesday.
The daily tally was under 200 for the second day in a row.
The total number of infections in Tokyo now stands at 16,252 -- the highest among Japan's 47 prefectures.
Osaka has reported the second most cases, with 5,892. Kanagawa ranks third with 3,304, followed by Aichi with 3,243, and Fukuoka with 3,084.
Nationwide, 252 new cases were confirmed by 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. This brings the national total to 50,713. There have been 1,066 deaths.
