The seven-day average number of cases through Saturday stands at 390.9. That is 88.8 percent of the figure a week ago and is below 400 for the third day in a row. Total cases in Tokyo have reached 166,065.

Tokyo officials say they confirmed eight new deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities from the virus to 2,150.

They also say 46 people are in serious condition, five fewer than the previous day's figure.
