Tokyo Reports Record - High Coronavirus Infections

Tokyo reports record-high coronavirus infections

Tokyo's daily tally of coronavirus infections reached an all-time high of 570 cases on Friday. The previous record was 539, reported last Saturday.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government says the newly confirmed cases involve people aged under 10 to over 100.

Officials say the daily figures reflect the results of tests conducted roughly three days ago. They say the number of tests on Tuesday was the highest so far, at 9,792.

The total number of confirmed infections in Tokyo now stands at 39,649.

On a monthly basis, 8,567 infections have been reported so far in November, higher than the previous record of 8,125 in August.

Tokyo officials say the number of patients in serious condition is 61, up one from Thursday. The figure has risen for a fifth straight day, and is at its highest since a state of emergency was lifted in May.
