Training For Tokyo Games Volunteers Resumes Online

Training for Tokyo Games volunteers resumes online

Training for volunteers for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, which have been postponed to next year due to the coronavirus, has resumed online.

Training for some 80,000 volunteers called "field casts," who will mainly work at competition venues, started in October last year. But it was suspended in February due to the outbreak and resumed online this month.

About 170 field casts took part in a session on Wednesday.

They were briefed by staff from the Tokyo Games organizing committee on the history of the Olympics and Paralympics, and other information.

They then did an activity to show unity in which they were invited to punch the air. They were also set quizzes about Paralympic records.

A 19-year-old college student said he felt sad to watch the display alone, but the session with videos was easy to understand. He also said he hopes the games will be memorable events for everyone, including him.

Organizers say the online sessions will continue until December, and that the volunteers will be separated and receive training in line with their specific roles from April.
