Uniform Design A Draw For Image - Conscious Japanese High Schoolers

Uniform design a draw for image-conscious Japanese high schoolersFor most image-conscious high school students forced to wear old-fashioned school uniforms, opinions about the outfits ranged from disdain to horror, but now some schools in Japan are introducing modern, fashionable uniform designs which are actually proving an attraction to new students.

From the late 1960s through the 1970s, when student counterculture movements arose, many schools abolished military-style uniforms in hopes of placating rebellious students looking to express their freedom.

But recently, students have begun to consider attractive-looking uniforms a factor in choosing which school to attend. Students now insist that uniforms should come from well-known designers and even incorporate cultural touchstones from the world of popular culture, including things like manga-influenced styles.
