The Yankees' Ichiro Suzuki had two hits against Tigers ace Justin Verlander on Tuesday, but it carried little weight as New York was left on the brink of elimination with a 2-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series.
Verlander allowed just three hits in 8-1/3 innings, and was unscored upon until Eduardo Nunez homered in the ninth. Prior to that the only hits Verlander surrendered were Suzuki's singles in the fourth and seventh.
"On this team, there is the feeling that someone is probably going to do something to turn the tide," Suzuki said. "(In the seventh) I thought, 'I'm going to do it.'"
