Hisashi Iwakuma bounced back from a pair of poor outings with six impressive innings on Tuesday as the Seattle Mariners routed the Houston Astros 13-2.
Iwakuma (6-4) gave up some long drives to the deepest parts of Houston's Minute Maid Park, but surrendered just one run on three first-inning singles. He allowed seven singles, while striking out seven batters without issuing a walk in an economical 83-pitch effort.
"The big thing today was getting the win," said Iwakuma, who appeared to be visibly relieved after he had given up five runs in each of his previous starts. "My main concern was that this game would not be the same story."
