Injured Hakuho To Miss Tourney

Injured Hakuho to miss tourneyYokozuna Hakuho said Thursday he will not take part in the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament, which starts Sunday in Tokyo, because of injuries.
His preparation for the tournament was substantially delayed because of an old injury to his left knee and pain in his right leg, which he injured during the previous tournament in Nagoya.

It will be Hakuho’s first withdrawal from a tournament since he dropped out halfway through last year’s autumn basho. It is the first time for Hakuho to pull out before the start of a tournament since the 2006 Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament, when he was an ozeki.

“I made the decision because I did not want to cause trouble for other sumo wrestlers,” Hakuho told reporters in Tokyo.

“Looking ahead to the Kyushu tournament [in November], I will do my best to heal.”
