Japan's national rugby team has dropped two places to eighth in the global rankings after being defeated by South Africa in a World Cup quarterfinal on Sunday.
The international rugby governing body, World Rugby, is updating the rankings after each match during the event in Japan.
The Japanese team had been ranked sixth after advancing to the knockout stage for the first time.
In the latest rankings, New Zealand is first, England is second, Wales is third and South Africa is fourth. The semifinals will begin on Saturday with a match between England and New Zealand. The game between Wales and South Africa will be played on Sunday.
