The Delhi Police Karate/Self Defence Academy recently organised a programme where students of the academy displayed some karate kicks as well as self-defence moves.
Sunira Bassi, wife of BS Bassi, Delhi Police chief, was the chief guest at the event, and looked quite impressed with the students' acts. She said, "I've always stressed the importance of self defence classes for girls. With so many incidents of eve-teasing, molestation, and other such issues, this is a way to empower women. Self-defence training should be made mandatory in all schools, and girls should be trained right from nursery. By the time they pass out, they will be more confident to counter when they are faced with such a situation. The moral fabric of the society is also to be blamed for lack of safety for women."
