Local Karate Team Looking To Head To Train For 2020 Olympics

Local karate team looking to head to train for 2020 OlympicsEight young members from Carolina Family Karate in Columbia will have a chance of a lifetime as they head to Lake Placid, New York.
The eight youth will head to the Olympic Training Center to train with America’s first WKF Traditional World Karate Champion Tokey Hill February 16-20.

These athletes are all black belts and include CFK coach Sensei William Blake Wagers, Sarah Gustafson, Junior Team member Hannah Gustafson, Lia Cappello, Lydia Gustafson, Jonathan Gustafson and Cameron Sloan.
Karate is now an official sport for the 2020 Olympic Games and only 60 karate athletes will represent the US. Athletes must train daily to help secure a spot on the team.
The goal of the team is to pay training fees of $4,000 first and hopefully find another $1,500 for chaperone expenses.
Our Courtney King spoke with CFK head coach Mathew Gardner and Sarah Gustafson about their trip and how they are preparing for the big week.
