Matsuyama Selected For World Team

Matsuyama selected for World teamHideki Matsuyama will play in the Presidents Cup for the second straight time after being named Tuesday to the 12-member World team to face a U.S. squad next month.
The World team for the biennial tournament, to be held Oct. 8-11 in Incheon, South Korea, was selected from top international players outside of Europe based on the world rankings. Matsuyama was the fourth-highest member selected.

The team will be headed by Australia’s Jason Day, winner of last month’s U.S. Open. Bae Sang Moon of host South Korea was selected as a captain’s pick.

The U.S. team, which was determined from a ranking formula using points scored on the U.S. PGA Tour, will be led by Jordan Spieth and Bubba Watson. Veteran Phil Mickelson was added as a captain’s pick.

The United States leads the series with eight wins and one loss, with one match ending in a draw.
