Nishikori Beats Blake Again

Kei Nishikori Kei Nishikori rolled past James Blake 6-3, 6-4 to reach the Delray Beach International quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Nishikori, who beat Blake in the 2008 final for his first and only ATP title to date, made quick work of the American wild card, dismissing him in 63 minutes.

He won 43 of 57 service points, never allowing Blake to break him.

The 66th-ranked Japanese will face another wild card from the United States in the quarters in Ryan Sweeting. Nishikori is 3-0 against Sweeting for his career.

‘‘I played well tonight,’’ Nishikori said on the official tournament website. ‘‘I tried not to miss much and he’s always aggressive, but at the same time, he’s going to miss a lot. I hit good serves, no breaks.’‘

‘‘It came into my mind tonight that three years ago we were playing the finals. It was a strange feeling to be playing in the second round.’‘

Both have been trying to regain their physical form since they last met, Nishikori from a chronic right elbow problem and Blake a right-knee injury.

‘‘We are both different than last time,’’ said the 21-year-old Nishikori, who is trying to become the highest ranked Japanese player of all time. Shuzo Matsuoka reached No. 46 back in 1992.
