Former Japan national team manager Akira Nishino will coach Thailand's national soccer team with an eye to the World Cup in 2022.
The Thai football association announced on Monday that Nishino had accepted the offer to become the new head coach of the Thai team.
Nishino led Japan to the knockout stage of the World Cup in Russia last year.
He has been in Thailand since last week. After meeting with association officials, Nishino said he has long been interested in coaching a foreign country's national team.
Thailand was 116th in the FIFA ranking as of last month.
