Ogasawara Sidelined, Injured Wrist

Michihiro OgasawaraYomiuri Giants first baseman Michihiro Ogasawara was removed from the active roster Thursday after injuring his left wrist when he was hit by a pitch in a game against the Hanshin Tigers.

Ogasawara, who was sidelined in Wednesday's loss to the Tigers after being hit on the wrist with a pitch by Minoru Iwata on Tuesday, was diagnosed with a chip fracture after undergoing an exam at a hospital on Thursday.

The 37-year-old is hitting just .236 with five homers in 80 games this season and had a stint on the sidelines early in the season after he was hit by a pitch on his left leg.

''I took him off the active roster since it's going to take a while for him to recover. I hope he can return to the team as soon as possible,'' said Yomiuri manager Tatsunori Hara.
