Yoshito Okubo is sporting a new look these days, and it has nothing to do with following any trend. The Kawasaki Frontale striker and his three sons had their heads shaved to empathize with and encourage his wife, who is fighting a disease requiring strong medication.
“I believe she feels anxious now. To alleviate her fear, I’ve talked with my sons and we decided to do this together,” said Okubo, who revealed a photo of himself and his boys on the Instagram image-sharing platform on Oct. 11.
The 33-year-old striker, who currently leads the J.League’s top division with 22 goals, said it was his first time in 14 years to have a crew cut. On Oct. 14, he visited his wife in the hospital before Frontale’s third-round Emperor’s Cup match against second-tier Kyoto Sanga, in which he scored the first goal in a 3-0 victory. “I’m very happy that I could score a goal,” he said.
