London Olympian Kazuomi Ota lifted a total of 412 kilograms to tie his own national record in the men’s over-105 kilogram category and win a ninth consecutive title at the All-Japan weightlifting championships here Sunday.
Ota, who was successful on all six attempts in the competition, also added 1 kilogram to his Japan record in the clean and jerk when he lifted 227 kilograms. He lifted 185 kilograms in the snatch.
“I was hoping to improve my record a little more, but I succeeded in all six attempts, so I’m satisfied with how it turned out,” Ota said.
With the win, Ota earned a berth at the IWF World Championships, to be held in November in Houston, where a spot at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics will also be at stake.
