Tokyo police have questioned the former coaches of a college American football team in connection with a dangerous tackle by one of its players.
A defender for Nihon University tackled a Kwansei Gakuin University quarterback long after the ball was passed in a game in May. The quarterback suffered injuries that took 3 weeks to heal.
Sources close to investigators say police have questioned former Nihon University head coach Masato Uchida and former coach Tsutomu Inoue after the quarterback filed a criminal complaint against them.
The 2 former coaches are reportedly telling police that they didn't order the late hit.
The defender told a news conference in May that the coaches had instructed him to commit the foul.
Nihon University fired the 2 coaches in July, after acknowledging in a report that the defender had acted on their instructions.
