Tokyo Marathon organizers are considering moving the finish line from the Tokyo Bay waterfront to Tokyo Station to increase the crowds seeing the end of the race, it has been learned.
A proposal to alter the course for next year’s race in February was made at a Tuesday board meeting of the Tokyo Marathon Foundation, which organizes the race. The current finish line is at Tokyo Big Sight near Ariake.
Looking for ways to make the race more exciting, the proposal would have the final part of the race pass through the area around the Imperial Palace before concluding in front of Tokyo Station.
Currently, the course takes the runners past the Imperial Palace around the 9-kilometer mark.
